The ALA is doing what it can to get info on what's going on. Sounds like refugees in Houston are being provided with temp cards and assistance, while others in Mississippi and other places are assessing damage and trying to locate staff members.

With the disaster in the Gulf States, it may seem like a low priority to get libraries back up and running, not to mention supporting libraries who are now serving a displaced population. As you think of ways to help survivors of Hurricane Katrina, remember:

People will need the technology libraries can provide to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones.
People with nothing left could use libraries to find jobs, seek information about vital records that have been lost, and resources to learn about options for disaster victims.
People will need something to take their minds off their terrible losses (leisure reading), and many could connect with non-fiction titles about stress, trauma, and etc.

HELP LIBRARIES GET BACK ON THEIR FEET!

With the disaster in the Gulf States, it may seem like a low priority
to get libraries back up and running, not to mention supporting libraries who are now serving a displaced population. As you think of ways to
help survivors of Hurricane Katrina, remember:
